George Hadjimichalis Unveils 5 Works at Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery

Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery announces a rare and compelling exhibition by one of Greece’s most significant contemporary artists, George Hadjimichalis. 5 Works opens on Tuesday, May 6 and runs through June 7, 2025, marking the artist’s return to the gallery space following his monumental retrospective at the Benaki Museum (Pireos 138), George Hadjimichalis: Works from 1966 to 2022, which captivated audiences for five months until January 2024.

In this latest chapter, Hadjimichalis presents five new works that emerge from a deeply personal and introspective process. Speaking candidly about their genesis, the artist reflects on an abandoned project—Situation — which, though once deeply imagined, proved too vast and elusive in scope. “The idea had haunted me for years,” he says, “but I eventually realised that its core was impossibility itself. That’s when I chose to dismantle it entirely.”

From that creative reckoning, five autonomous works have surfaced — three of them large-scale pieces that were originally conceived as part of a broader whole. Now presented independently, these works possess a quiet synergy, an “invisible thread” of connection, as Hadjimichalis puts it. Though no longer part of a larger narrative, they whisper to one another across the gallery walls, linked by an undercurrent of mystery and artistic intuition.

This intimate exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the evolving mind of an artist who continues to challenge both his medium and his own methodology.
