Eugenie Coumantaros |A Humble Paradise
WHAT: A photo-exhibit that explores the landscape and rural life of Tinos. Eugenie Coumantaros captures the changing external and internal landscape of Tinos over the past two decades. By eliminating context and then even tangible details, Coumantaros renders arches and doorways, corners and windows not as structures in a vernacular architecture, but rather as sources of darkness and light, poised in a delicate balance. Sensual forms emerge out of the shadows and in the new equilibrium that gives solace to the soul, it becomes apparent gradually, image by image, that the humble paradise one searches for outside, may also be contained within.
