How to Celebrate May Day (Protomayia)!
Tomorrow is Protomayia. Here’s how to pay tribute to the Return of Spring like a true Greek…
On this Greek version of Labor Day, locals traditionally gather bright blooms from the hillsides and fashion them into wreaths for their homes, to celebrate the return of Spring – and the final victory of Summer against Winter!
You’ll see these wreaths decorating front doors and entrances all over the country. Many flower festivals take place while the day itself is typically spent with friends and family over a long taverna lunch, with singing and dancing and general merry-making.
