Meet you at The George!
Athens has a chic new meeting point—and it’s impossible to pass through Syntagma without being tempted inside. George, The Lobby Bar, at the King George Hotel, is the sort of all-day destination that effortlessly draws you in, whether you’re stopping for a sharp morning espresso, sliding into a booth for a midday meeting, or settling in for a late-night cocktail that turns into two.
Athens has a new favourite living room. And it’s beautiful. George promises to be your go-to destination to begin your day, escape it, or linger long after it ends. A spot where art, design, and gastronomy flow together to make your post-gym, post-shopping pit-stop an elegant one.
A Reinvention with Swagger
In a complete reinvention of the space, George emerges vibrant and cosmopolitan—alive with energy and easy sophistication. It strikes that elusive balance between luxury and comfort: the kind of place which makes you feel special without ever making you feel like you should have dressed up more. The transformation by Goddard Littlefair, the London design house known for its quiet, confident take on contemporary luxury, is elegant and assured—respectful of the King George’s storied past, yet unmistakably modern. The Laskaridis family’s devotion to art permeates George with an understated glamour. Works by Moralis, Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas and Vasiliou appear alongside contemporary pieces by Philippos Theodoridis, Peggy Kliafa, Zetta Antsakli and Iliodora Margellou, blending eras and aesthetics seamlessly.
Breakfast Through Lunch
The menu curated by Asterios Koustoudis and Nikos Livadias leans into Greek ingredients, clean flavours, and a zero-waste philosophy. One dish, “Bread, Butter & Honey,” a Madeleine de Proust for most Athenians – a nostalgic throwback to childhood mornings that marries honey from the hotel’s own hives in Kerkini, butter from small producers in Deskati, and freshly baked sourdough from the King George’s bakery. Simple. Honest.
Then there’s the show-stopper: the trolley viennoiserie. A roving cart of warm, handcrafted pastries, sweet and savoury, gliding past tables like a parade of temptation. Paired with single-origin espresso, seasonal infusions, and botanical blends, breakfast here is a morning ritual you’ll want to repeat.
When the Lights Dim, the Bar Takes Over
As evening settles over Athens, George undergoes its own transformation. The music deepens, conversations stretch, and the majestic bar becomes the electric centre of the room.
The cocktail philosophy leans into premium gin and tequila, embracing global fine-drinking trends. Signature cocktails, each inspired by the six senses and shaped by the zero-waste ethos, arrive tableside via a dramatic mobile cart. Aromatic bitters, crafted in-house and offered as elegant scented sprays, allow guests to personalize their drink in the moment. It’s theatre, ritual, and mixology in one seamless performance.
And because no exceptional drink should go unaccompanied, the bar’s food offering is bold and cosmopolitan. Think lobster mac & cheese, beef tartare éclairs, shrimp tempura bao, oysters on ice – each dish plated with flair.
